Hello fellow class members,
I suppose as this is my first post an introduction may be in order....I’m Alice. My experience with gaming isn’t great, I loved car racing games when I was younger (yes I was one of the ones that steered with my arms). Then went through a phase of PC Spider Solataire and Pinball, which somehow led to on again/off again Sims followed with Sims 2. Nowadays it is very casual games of Halo and Cod with the occasional Lan – merely because I have many friends who are into gaming (however, it fascinates me that none of these friends consider themselves gamers). At this point I will share with all of you that I have never played a game on Facebook before yet still cringe at the thought of FarmVille. I would have to say that some casual games triumph over others and I believe that FarmVille isn’t one of them (no matter what the figures say).
In tutorial Mark raised the question as to if SecondLife would be considered a game. For those of you who haven’t heard of SecondLife, it is mostly a combination of Sims and a chatroom. The user creates an avatar and can roam the world, buy land/houses, get a job, and meet ‘real’ people from all over the world who are also sitting at their computer doing the same. SecondLife lacks defined goals but rather provides the opportunity for the user to create their own life and goals. I was thinking about this and Minecraft was brought to my attention (a friend has recently become addicted and I would like to shed some light on the situation). The goal in Minecraft is to survive, other than that each user defines their own goals (thank you Antony Vlug with your previous post with mention to Minecraft). Does this make the game harder or more fun than one that has previously stated goals and levels to conquer? Just a thought.
