Video games?

Hi Everyone I'm Dunia

Well before this course started I used to associate video games with addiction and this may be the reason why I would not call myself a gamer even though I like play them a lot. My gaming experience can be traced back to my early childhood when I played Prince in big black and white monitor and windows did not even exist ( You used to play your programs in D.O.S.). Later on in my teen years I played Starcraft ,Counterstrike and Gundbound but for a short period of time. I have played them in the pas so, Am I gamer ? and if I was are video games a good or bad thing?.Last week lecure and tutorial, in fact, have shown me that video games can be a good thing, they are matter of academic study, hard to believe, at least for my father, but that is what is this course is about or I think it is.

So far from lecture and tutorial I have learnet that as the same way in cine, video games also have narratives. Starcraf, for example, tells the story of the colonazation of a empires, (Terran , Protoss and Zerg) as StarWar does it.Prince is about rescuing a princess as the same way Sherk goes after princess Fiona. We could argue, however, that these narrative come originally from literature but the final product varies depending on the media been used. In the case of video games there is a unique aspect that make it stand up, agency.

With video games is the player who creates the media text and an very own experience. In video games is the gamer who compose the structure of the game and its outcome, experience which is restricted to this kind of media. Certainly, is a unique characteritic thar I think is has helped video games to grow as a form of art. Altough still to early I believe that we will find more characteristics that sustain these ideas.
