This struck me during today’s lecture about the decision wheel in Mass Effect:
Being that I’m socially inept if my intended social interaction goes terribly wrong in a game this is true to real life experience. This doesn't just go for social interactions: how often have you gone to kick a ball that has rolled toward you and you fall flat on your ass? I sent all the right messages to my muscles at the right time to kick that ball but it didn’t happen. Yet in a game you would consider this destructive to your immersion?
Maybe in game interactions we are looking for a utopian rule system, one that is not trying to be too much like real life which is unpredictable and largely out of one’s control (at least for me). Perhaps another stat when creating a character could be social aptitude which would increase the chance of social interactions going the way you wanted them to. It’s bit like games where your accuracy with a weapon increases with experience or upgrades.
I might leave this a short one and post a longer one on a different subject.
