Viewpoint and Immersion

I would not call myself a gamer, in fact, I very much dislike playing games. In the last year, I could honestly say that I spent less than 10 hours playing games. Yes, that includes games on videogames consoles, cell phone games, computer games etc etc. Sad, I know. Or perhaps I have a life :P "lol, jk." However this year, I have probably played more videogames in this past week than I have in the last year, all thanks to FTVMS212.

The new Crash Bandicoot has probably landed my number one favourite, with its simplistic narrative and straight forward aim. Simply collect the apples, get more life, kill the bad guys and get to the next level. After a while, I decided to play another popular game. Grand Theft Auto. This I found more difficult to be immersed in with its more complex narrative. To be honest, I didn't even know what the aim of the game was. However one thing I did find appealing in both games was its third person trailing where the body of your character was always in view. I tried first person perspective but got more confused, struggling to get use to "seeing" through the eyes of the character, or rather "being" the character. In GTA, I found most difficulty in not knowing the boundaries of my eye sight, in comparison with third person perspective where you could see the boundaries around the body of your onscreen character.
