iPhones ramble

Hey there,
So this week is just a bit of a random ramble... I don’t own a Mac but recently learnt that the phenomenon of Crazy Birds is available on Macs, and other iPhone games. This is a little bit of a backwards development in gaming. I feel as though this is the way games are starting to be developed though. Casual gaming is rising and of course increasingly popular with the iPhone and other portable hardware. This rise in casual gaming is pushing more pressure on developers and the need for convenience in gaming. Are casual games able to be developed into an extended version? The way a tv series is often turned into a movie. I’m sure they already have... Would the market still be the same? There may not even be an interest all together, given that the game is possibly only so popular due to the ease and lack of commitment associated with the casual game.

On a side note, with regards to downloadable content: A friend of mine has mentioned an issue she has had regarding Sims 3 and a downloadable upgrade. When it was downloaded it constantly crashed each time she tried to play a new family, which pretty much fails. Has anyone had this problem before? Apparently each time EA games bring out a new upgrade it is merely to fix the problems from the last upgrade. How does this work in comparison to what was discussed in class surrounding downloadable content?
