addiction to network game

The addictive network game has been an issue in Asian country especially.
Let me pick up Japan as an example. There is a special name for a player who is addicted to online game in Japan. The player is called “Netoge Haijin”(ネトゲ廃人). “Netoge” stands for network game and “Haijin” means originally a disabled person. “Netoge Haijin” describes a person who cannot walk away from online game and is absent from a company or school without permission, then that results in the loss of job and staying at home. Therefore, “Netoge Hainjin” is a consequence that the network game disabled him or her from the reality.

It is said there are two main reasons why the network game player is easily addicted.
First reason is communication. The online game makes it possible to connect a large number of players at the same time, to have communication between players. Also, players should be responsible to their role if they work together or making partner, group in the game.
Second aspect is due to no end within network game. Compared with offline game, it has an aim, such as beating enemies, however there is no clear target in online game, so that player need to set the goal by themselves such as make the level of character maximum or completion of gathering rare items. Also, the network game is updated regularly and adding new functions, so that the players cannot get bored.

There is a lot of news related to addiction of online game. For example, a man died from playing the online game for 86 hours continuously in Korea as well as in Hong Kong. 60% of Japanese secondary school online game player tend to be addicted. People believe the game is harmful and demonised due to news. However, playing the game is one of the ways to release or relax oneself. The important thing is how we should deal with the game. To prevent addiction, the time management can be effective, so that we need to schedule how long the game can be played in a day. We need to avoid to be “Netoge Haijin”.
