High on games.

Recently I was taken by my friend to a new internet cafe called caprica. It is suppose to be the next level of internet cafes with it being in a huge open space which has dim lightening, all the latest technology, and has furniture which gives it a spacey sci fi feel and lasery lightening that also gives it that feel. As I walked out of there I felt like I had walked out of another planet, my friend told me gamers would sit in there for the whole night or the whole day just gaming in that dark environment and I could not help thinking to myself ahhh is that healthy?. Watching the gamers in there you could see how Bakkers research could apply as you could see physically the adrenaline pumping as they slammed there hand on the desk or yelled abuse across the room. My friend openly admitted that it is that rush from the game which gets him going back as much as he can and to me this seemed like he was addicted to the dopamine which was produced by the game. However, what got me thinking, after this, was when Kevin applied the addiction theory to other things like books. Being in that spacey net cafe to me seemed isolating but really they were all socialising with each other through the game and even when they went on breaks they would all sit outside chatting. When I find a good book I will sit alone in my room for hours unable to put this book down and basically shutting out the whole world until I found out the ending. Also, I remember kids at school who would sit alone reading books over the whole lunchtime period not talking with anyone, this seems really unhealthy in relation to not having enough social contact with others but NOO body turned around and blamed the book for the child’s social incompetence.....
